With Danscentrum Syd (Malmö) and Cirkus Syd (Lund)

Welcome to two days of workshops within acrobatics and contemporary dance. This event is aimed towards dancers who want to practice circus and towards circus artists who want to practice dance. With elements of each soft acrobatics, flexibility, body awareness, explosiveness and improvisation the workshops will serve as a broad learning opportunity for different types of appoches to acrobatics.
We wish to delve into the practices of floor based acrobatics and floorwork and to receive knowledge from both contemporary dance and contemporary circus. To mix the two artforms, bringing them, and their practitioners closer.
Open to dancers, movers and circus artists of all different genres / disciplines with a strong interest in acrobatic practices. Open level! (You need to be able to do a cartwheel and a bridge)
There will be three workshops held by three different movers: Katrzyna Pauluch (contemporary dancer), Fridamy Roth (circus artist) and Atte Rimpelä (contemporary dancer & circus artist).
The workshops will be held in English.

About the workshop leaders:
Katarzyna Paluch is a performer, dancer, creator, and teacher. In 2024, she completed an MA in Contemporary Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg, defending her research in movement improvisation. Katarzyna works as a freelance performing artist and teaches workshops from partnering, contact improvisation, floorwork, and movement improvisation. Currently, she is engaged in a research practice on improvised partnering Improbable lifts, which she conducts together with Berlin-based artist Aaron Lang. She is a member of Collective Nest and co-organizes the annual international contemporary dance festival, DO Festival, in Poland, which provides professional education and supports the freelance dance scene.
Atte Rimpelä is a dancer, choreographer, circus artist and teacher from Tampere. Rimpelä's artistic approach is based on bodily reflection and experience, developing the body's abilities and channeling learned skills into bodily expression. Since 2023, Rimpelä has worked as a dancer and acrobat around Europe, including with dance companies and choreographers such as ACCCA (Clara Andermatt), ilDance (Israel Aloni) and PAx (Kyrie Oda).
Fridamy Roth is a circus artist, director and pedagogue based in Malmö. Her work is centered around the discipline of acro dance, and is often mixed up with contortion and flexibility. She transforms the body into absurd forms and plays with the balance between the human and the non-human. What can the body really do and why? In what ways can these non- or superhuman forms, movements, convey completely common human feelings? Can the absurd highlight the normal? The absurd body can perhaps explain something about the world. During the last years she has worked on stage with, amongst others, The Danish Royal Theatre, Glimt Amager, Dynamo Workspace and Below Zero.
