Konstnärsnämndens residens! Möt Simon Granit Ossoinak & Arvi Yrjölä!

Cirkus Syd samarbetar med Konstnärsnämndens internationella cirkusprogram i att erbjuda residens om 2 sammanhängande veckor på Stenkrossen till 2 artister per år. Ansökan utlyses och administreras av Konstnärsnämnden årligen där 2 separata projekt beviljas residens hos Cirkus Syd. Under sitt residens kan en artist/konstnärsgrupp utveckla ett konstnärskap eller en produktion med stöd av en internationell artist som de själva bjuder in.

I måndags anlände Simon Granit Ossoinak (SE) och hans gäst Arvi Yrjölä (FI) till Lund:

Hej! Welcome to Lund, Cirkus Syd and Stenkrossen, please would you introduce yourselves?

My name is Arvi, I'm 26 years old coming originally from Tampere, Finland. At 19 years old I went to study at Codarts in Rotterdam with specialisation in acro dance. Since graduating 2023 i've been working with various dance and circus companies in the Netherlands and Finland.

My name is Simon, I also did Codarts in Rotterdam as a dance acrobat, before that I grew up in Stockholm, in a way through Cirkus Cirkör. I started At Cirkus Cirkör at 12 and until I moved to Rotterdam I was at Cirkör doing courses or high school. I graduated in 2022, and I decided to stay in Netherlands to do my own shows, so far i did 4. I've been working on with musicians, dancers, par cours artists and some spoken theatre and then now lately I moved back to be based in Stockholm and I've been in the Extraordinary History of Circus with Cirkus Cirkör and I'm trying to establish myself as a creator here in Sweden.

Have you ever been to Lund before or is this your first time?

Arvi: It's my first time!

Simon: I've been here in November 2025 for New Horizons Summit! that Cirkus Syd organised.

What is the project you will work on?

Simon: These two weeks are more like lab weeks, collaborating as two acro dancers, but I have a main theme that we are working around and Arvi also has his own input and ideas that we combine. The theme I work on is presence, this is for different resons both socialtal and personal, its hard to be present with distractions like social media and also future oriented thinking like make sure you are safe and good in the future. Also relating to circus arts, there are so many deadline, you need to present and you have limited time and you get pulled away from the moment and being there, enjoying and experiencing what you are doing. That has been difficult for me personally because it was my main motivation when i was younger the experience of it, being there with the people in the room, I'm trying to get back to that. This residency is low stakes to connect and see what comes out of it. Perhaps one or more projects and that is part of the vision to experience and connect in the present.

Arvi: I agree everything Simon said, from my side I am bringing more concrete exercises and views to explore the themes. In the centre of this movement and acrobatics in close proximity to one another and doing it together in the same space by reacting and staying open to the other person near you.

Simon: We are working on some improvisation techniques and partnering acrobatics techniques methods, and certain things that require a lot of focus, risk, like almost kicking each other, falling onto each other, physical proximity to avoid the crashes.
