Konstnärsnämndens residens! Möt Marie Asplund och Mar Olivé Nieto!

Cirkus Syd samarbetar med Konstnärsnämndens internationella cirkusprogram i att erbjuda residens om 2 sammanhängande veckor på Stenkrossen till 2 artister per år. Ansökan utlyses och administreras av Konstnärsnämnden årligen där 2 separata projekt beviljas residens hos Cirkus Syd. Under sitt residens kan en artist/konstnärsgrupp utveckla ett konstnärskap eller en produktion med stöd av en internationell artist som de själva bjuder in.

I måndags anlände Marie Asplund (SE) och hennes gäst Mar Olivé Nieto (ES) till Lund:

Hej! Welcome to Lund, Cirkus Syd and Stenkrossen, please would you introduce yourselves?

My name is Marie, I'm a circus artist working with aerial fabric. Sometimes I say aerial curtains, for people who don't know circus very well, "I climb curtains" and then they know what I mean.

Hello my name is Mar, I'm also a circus artist I'm doing knitted rope and I live in Barcelona.

Have you ever been to Lund before or is this your first time?

Marie: I've been here once, for the New Horizons Festival, its a festival with circus in Lund and I was there doing a masterclass in aerial fabric.

Mar: No, its my first time, its very nice, so exotic!

What is the project you will work on?

Marie: Good question! Its a show called A Forgotten Home and the main focus is the fabric and a relationship with the fabric. At least originally I wanted it to be the relationship with the womb. I'm the author and the artist in the project and i also make the scenography and costumes and so its a project using aerial fabric as the discipline and also crotchet and handicraft.

Mar: I'm doing the external eye in the project, I worked already with Marie when she was in Stockholm University of the Arts for her final paper of the Circus Bachelor Degree. Now, I'm here to help her in the process, to generate more physical material in the tissue and the floor and also dramaturgical support. I ask her a lot of questions and make Marie think so she can be more sharp in what the purpose of the project is and that the narrative is coherent, clear approach of the theme and input to research. Marie: Yes, external eye is a good word because Mar is looking and letting me know what I can't see. Next I will do a preview performance at CirkusExpo at Riksteatern in Stockholm in February, in the summer i will do more residencies and a premiere in september!
