At Cirkus Syd we have had an intense but exciting year, and as the end of 2023 approaches we would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been our most packed year (as of yet ;).
For us, the highlight of 2023 was in September when we launched the Southern Sweden Circus Festival with a four day kick-off, a (not so small) taster of what is to come in 2024.
Our work this year has not only been festival related - together with Dynamo Workspace and Rigas Cirks we have started up the New Horizons Leadership Programme EU version. Our Circus Thinkers groups has wrapped up the Circus Sonic project and ready to be launched in January 2024. We have also continued our collaboration with Roma Information- and Knowledge Centre Malmö Municipality (RIKC) and Cirkus Brazil Jack on Roma people's significance to Swedish circus. As if that wasn't enough we just wrapped up the New Horizons Summit 2023, a 3 day event of performances, workshops and seminar for the general public and those curious and interested in contemporary circus.
At our hub at Stenkrossen in Lund we have continued to bring circus into the daily routine with residencies, almost every day trainings and workshops. We have had the pleasure to host some amazing artists and circus people for both longer and shorter visits during the year. To finish off 2023 we delivered the second edition of the New Horizons Summit, three days in Lund packed with circus performances, talks, workshops. It was a pleasure to host all of you! In January 2024 we are opening training in our new Training Hall which we share with Lunds Cultural School. It's very exciting and significantly increases the training offer for circus in Lund. And we will continue the new and super popular Circus Playground concept.
To wrap up this post we would like to say a big thank you to all of you, artist & collaborators, members & audience! Without you none of this would have been possible. We want to direct a special thank you to Lund City Cultural department who supported us through thick and thin in 2023! We look forward to seeing you all in 2024 to continue to spread the circus magic :)
